LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Actor Tom Hanks will host a primetime television special on January 20 to celebrate Joe Biden‘s inauguration as president, organizers said Wednesday. The 90-minute “Celebrating America” special will feature appearances by celebrities including Jon Bon Jovi, Demi Lovato Justin Timberlake and Ant Clemons, according to a statement from Biden’s inaugural committee. Democrats Biden and Kamala Harris, who will be sworn in earlier in the day as president and vice president, will also deliver comments. Biden’s committee has cut back on the usual opening events due to the COVID-19 pandemic, canceling the traditional parade and opening balls that normally take place in Washington. The television special “will show the endurance, heroism and unified commitment of the American people to come together as a nation to heal and rebuild,” the inaugural committee said. The show will air on the CBS, ABC, CNN, NBC and MSNBC television networks, and will be streamed on YouTube, Facebook (NASDAQ :), Twitter and other online platforms.
