WASHINGTON (Reuters) – US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson will travel to Turkey next week before attending a NATO meeting in Brussels on March 31, a senior State Department official said on Friday.

Their talks in Ankara come as the US-led coalition intensifies its military campaign against the Islamic State in the Syrian city of Raqqa. The US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces have already reached the entrance to the Tabqa Dam on the south side of the Euphrates.

After Turkey, Tillerson will fly to Brussels to attend his first meeting of NATO foreign ministers. The NATO meeting was scheduled for April 5-6, but was rescheduled after Tillerson decided to attend a summit with China.
