Retail sales in New Zealand soar after lockdown ends

<p>WELLINGTON, New Zealand – New Zealand retail sales soared in the third quarter after a pandemic-induced crisis in April and May.

The value of retail sales rose to a record 28.2% in the July-September quarter from the previous quarter after adjusting for seasonal factors, Statistics New Zealand said on Monday.

Retail sales volumes increased 28%.

Sales had fallen in the second quarter during a strict lockdown to stop the spread of the coronavirus.
