The Baltimore Orioles have agreed to trade right-hander Alex Cobb to the Los Angeles Angels for infield prospect Jahmai Jones, The Athletic reported Monday. The O’s agreed to pay more than half of Cobb’s $ 15 million salary in 2021, according to the report. Cobb is in the final year of a $ 57 million four-deal deal. Jones, a second baseman, is the No. 7 prospect in the Angels’ organization. Cobb joins a rotation that includes Dylan Bundy, Andrew Heaney, Griffin Canning, Shohei Ohtani and Jose Quintana, newly hired by the Angels on January 20. Ohtani is expected to start once a week. Cobb, 33, went 2-5 with a 4.30 ERA in 10 starts last year for the Orioles. Cobb is 55-57 with a 3.88 ERA in 156 starts spanning nine seasons with Tampa Bay (2011-17) and the Orioles. He was just 7-22 with a 5.10 ERA in his three seasons in Baltimore. Jones, 23, was selected in the second round of the 2015 amateur draft. He played in three games for the Angels last season, hitting .429 in seven plate appearances. (Field-level media)
